A Home from Home

Our boarding house, Underwood Hall was carefully designed to create a happy, safe and cosy home. It has a talented and committed team, led by the Head of Underwood Hall, all focused on the happiness and welfare of the children and creating a genuine home-from-home.

Bedrooms are cosy rooms, shared with a small group of friends. The boarders always take great pride in personalising their personal spaces with their own toys, photos and pictures. Underwood Hall is our boarders’ home, so getting the right balance between work, play and relaxation is vital.

The house has a range of communal spaces enabling the boarders to bond together over a favourite film in the lounge or relax in the snug for a cosy chat, board game or book. The kitchen is a central hub where the children enjoy Sunday brunch, essential evening snacks and lots of fun.

In the evenings the children are given plenty of time to relax and simply be with their friends, while games, activities and movie nights are organised across the week. Each boarder is given 15 minutes reading time before lights out to help them unwind after the busy day.

The weekend is filled with our special themed events, activities, games, competitions, all sorts of outings and opportunities to do something different, making best use of our countryside location. Examples include Bake-Off, MasterChef and Talent Shows. There is no time to get bored!

We aim to help each boarder to become independent and confident in preparation for their journey to Wymondham College Senior School where they are ready to further flourish.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral care is at the heart of boarding. There is always someone at hand to listen and to laugh with. Staff have close links with the boarders' Year 5 and Year 6 Class Teachers, with each boarder’s day and boarding experience approached as a whole, with the individual child at the centre.

The staff of Underwood Hall are always at hand for parents to contact or see, helping ensure that parents at home remain an integral part in their child's education. Weekly meetings between boarding staff and school staff ensure individual children’s welfare is regularly discussed and reviewed.

It is in boarding that the richest of relationships can develop.
